For this assessment, I was required to design a car wrap for the BMW x UC 2023 competition. My chosen theme was 'summer is coming'. My design placed in the top 3.

For this car wrap design submission, the theme I chose is ‘summer is coming’. I wanted to visualise a transition between cold weather to warm weather. The gradient between the original white of the car to the yellows and reds captures the weather changing between snowfall to sunny and warm weather. The illustrative typography element depict the phrase ‘the sun is here’ which is engulfed by a simple outline of a portion of a circle, representing the rising sun with smaller circle patterns surrounding it to represent the rays of light. The typeface used is ‘orange lemonade’ - its bubbly, handwritten form perfectly captures the playfulness and excitement that is associated with summer.
I decided to also illustrate the change of weather through depicting bare trees close to the ‘colder’ area of the car, which start blossoming as they are closer to the sun and the warmer side of the car. The blossoms are also simple circles of different colours including red and yellow. I wanted to keep the artworks simple and consistent - the blossoms, snow
flakes and the sun are all made of circles organised in different ways to represent these different elements.
To complete the scene I used simple lines to create birds on either side of the sun. The dark coloured birds long for the sunny weather, therefore, are approaching the sunny side of the car. The birds that have crossed over to the sunny side are golden and have increased in number representing how they have finally found warmth and growth. The birds add some movement to the artwork and help guide the viewer’s eyes towards the sun.
The artwork aims to tell a story and entice the viewer into analysing the entire body of the car to understand. The front of the car simply shows the snow flakes- summer has not yet come. It is only when you turn to the sides that you observe the transition and complete the story.
